It's pretty easy. I've only done the 12cm housing swap, and that was a piece of cake. Talk to NoSparkplugs, he just recently swapped an HX35 on.

It should all bolt right up. If you can turn a wrench, you can do it.

Depends on if you're running an intercooled or non-intercooled engine. If it's an intercooled engine with the 4" air hose inlet, and the flange going to the intercooler elbow, it's a direct bolt on. If you have a non intercooled engine, 3" air inlet, and the crossover, it is a more involved job, requiring some redneck engineering and fabbing skills.

make sure you get the v-band style rear plate and not the 45* elbow plate

I have 4:10 gears in the rear and I also have the getrag, so I was wondering also if an hx35 would help my in town driving? I don't want to change my rear end gears but I want to be able keep up with traffic. I have been looking into a new turbo for a while now and I have finally found one and I am going to make the final decision.
Thanks Ben

For BowtiedCTD you will probably have to reclock the new turbo. Good Luck

Yes, the 12 cm housing on an HX-35 makes an amazing difference on any 5 speed truck. Your '92 will feel like a different truck.

Reclock means to turn the compressor and/or turbine housings relative to the turbo center section so everything lines up right.

You don't want the elbow style backplate because it won't bolt up to your downpipe.

If your engine is installed exactly as it would sit in a Dodge, you won't need to reclock the turbo. All the Ford conversions I've seen have the exhaust manifold flipped, this requires reclocking the turbo.

The center section has to have the drain pointing straight down, so the exhaust housing has to be positioned to allow this. Then the compressor outlet has to connect ot your intercooler pipe or crossover, so the compressor may have to be reclocked.

None of this is very hard to do, it's easy to figure it out once you have the turbo in your hands and you see what lines up (or what doesn't).

As long as you have the HX35 with the v-band outlet on the exhaust housing.

By the way, you're in Iowa, right?

The 12 valves (and maybe some 24 valves, not sure) have a v-band style downpipe that will directly connect. The newer trucks have a 45* angle built into the backing plate on the turbo, which would require a different style downpipe.
