Hx35/Hx40 hybrid
I recently traded some work in exchange for a 6 blade hx40. I know the exhaust wheel has hit the exhaust housing and damaged the wheel as well as put some pretty good witness marks on the exhaust housing. From spinning the turbo it looks like the shaft may be bent. I've been doing some looking into swapping my hx35 exhaust housing, exhaust wheel and shaft onto the Hx40 center section and compressor. From my reading the hx40 shaft and center section is the same as the hx35 so it should work but all i have found is people machining a hx35 to fit the hx40 compressor and housing.
Has anyone tried just swapping the exhaust housing and shaft into an already built hx40? I know I'll have to take it to be properly balanced so that's not an issue. Turbo will be going on my 4bt.

Well guess nobody knows. Called the local turbo shop. They said it's just that easy. I can bring both turbos to them and if the 40 center section needs a rebuild they will rebuild it and put the 35 shaft and exhaust wheel on the 40 with the 40 comp wheel and balance it all out. $200 with no rebuild, $300 with rebuild. Guy said it should actually be a pretty sick turbo on the 4bt.

Sounds like a high rpm deal.
I did a hx35 on a rock crawler type jeep and it seemed to spool pretty slow. Did fine if ya flat footed it.
Im probally gonna stick to a stockish H1c on my 4bt, or hy35 or twin it. It seems like alot of 4bt guys like twins.
