hx-35 question

i need a new or good used turbo and am leaning toward an hx-35 that i found used with only 40K on it. does that bolt directly onto a stock '93 (exhaust and everything)? what actuates the waste gate? specifically, do i need something added to control when the wastegate opens, or does it regulate itself?

thanks

i think that the turbo is from an '02, if that matters.

the down pipe of the ex housing is differnt and would need to be replace and i think the intake hole(fresh air intake side/compressor) is biger.....not sure
about that on?
the turbo will bolt derectly to the ex manifold....I think the waste gate acuatore is differant allso but should work?

I think what matters is the price, how much?

$300. but, i saw rebuild kits for mine at something like $100. i'd rather have the hx (i think) but i don't want to have to mess around with it a lot. the truck isn't going to be anything high performance, anyway. mainly a work truck and some trailering.

It should be a direct bolt on. The most you might have to do is rotate the outlet to match your charge air cooler. Just check the size of the outlet flange to insure it's the same size yours.

The back plate of the exhaust housing will be different on an '02. They have the outlet elbow as part of the back plate, instead of the ealier HX-35's that had a seperate elbow clamped to the housing.

Other than that, you need to shorten the downpipe by an inch and it'll bolt right up with the flange style backplate. Maybe reclock the compressor side if its necessary.

The wastegate accuator should be mounted to the compressor housing and already hooked up and set for around 20 to 26 psi. Depending on wether its off a SO or HO. You can hook up a manual boost controller to increase the boost if you need to.

$300 isn't a terrible price if the turbo is in good shape, i.e. no end play. Offer them $250 for it. And I just bought a rebuild kit for $85 for my WH1C. It will be an improvement over the stock H1C.
