Hughes converter to a DTT/Suncoast/Goerend, who's done it?
I want to know if anyone on the DTR board has had a Hughes converter in their A518 and then swapped to one of the big name brands. I am considering on taking my Hughes out and going with a Goerend. I really want to hear a true real-world story on someone who has experienced both converters in their 1st gen. I don't want to make this thread into "who has a better converter", but rather a testimonal from someone who has experienced both. Thanks!

he went from an ATI converter to a $950 goerend and said it made a big difference, and it showed in his 1/4 mile times too.
ATI = cheap converter upgrade, but not as tight as others. just like hughes

I was begining to think that no one was going to bite on this thread! Thanks for the info Crossy's Son! I realize a subject like this can get opinionated really fast and certain companies might get public critizism. I'm just interested in talking to someone who has swapped a couple of different converters and their personal stories that go with them.

I know Goerend make what is considered to be the best TC, but Suncoast also make a pretty darn good one. I was quoted $650 or so a year ago, but can't remember if that was a single or 3 disc. I'm thinking probably a single, but give them a call if you haven't gone Goerend already.

Its funny how I get so much conflicting information. All jokes aside, I did speak to a person from DTT and was clearly told that they do not have billet covers or sell them by slip percentage %. The person from DTT explained that having a billet cover will not fit, due to too tight of clearances. Hhhmmm........... I thought BC847 has a "true" billet covered converter from Suncoast? I also hear about dual and triple discs..........I'm assuming that is for the later lockup folks? It looks like all major converter companies require a core converter due to low availibility.
My experience with Hughes was pretty good "customer service" wise. The people on the phone were polite and always called me back in a prompt manor. When I asked for the 15XFM 1st gen converter, they laughed and knew exactly why I was wanting something other than stock. They gave me no other choices or asked any tech questions about what I was going to do with the truck. I guess looking back, the converter was more of a cookie-cutter stampout. I'm assuming the big companies ask precise questions about your truck application and future power plans. Overall, the Hughes was better than stock.........but I'm hoping a Goerend will be a large & noticeable difference over the Hughes. You get what you pay for
