HTT Stage III Kit

Those running the HTT Stage III turbo kit chime in here. What are the pros and cons of this setup? Looking for an upgrade to the ole H1C until I can get some work done to my HX35. Sound over stock turbo? Boost pressure? EGT reduction? HP gained over stock turbo? As always any comments are appreciated.

I'm interested in this, too. I think Cethane has one?

once the work is done to either an H1C or HX35, it's essentially the same turbo...

my HX40 uses an H1C center housing and compressor housing.

it'll make more power at higher level due to higher compressor efficiency...

so if you've got a wore out H1C sitting around, build a hybrid out of it, and then sell off the HX35 to offset the cost. that's what I did, but I went w a full HX40 turbine side as well.

Cant tell you much about the stage III kit, but I can tell you a little about the HTB2 64.

Good to see you went out spent some of that molded money ya had settin around Cody.

The HX35 I have is off of JR Adkins truck. So you can imagine what shape it is in. LOL. Shaft play is minimal but the impeller is pitted quite a bit.

So basically what your saying Forrest is that the turbo you have running now essentially the same turbo as what I would have if I went to the Stage III?

if you've got a wore out HX35 collecting dust, I would just do the upgrade to it...

I've got the 60mm 6 blade compressor wheel that they use... and we went ahead and put an HX40 turbine wheel and housing on it while it was apart... I didn't use the HT kit, but it's the same wheel... we just machined the compressor housing to match the wheel. I'm ASSUMING that they're doing the same thing vs. providing a NEW compressor housing.

I'm pretty happy w/ my turbo... I wish it spooled up a little quicker, but it made a huge difference in top end pull and EGT control over the stocker... you've got a 16 housing right now, so the difference probably won't be as dramatic, but it WILL make a difference if you're up in the 30-35+psi range... these twheels like to run at about 38-39psi on our engines... I couldn't feel any difference between 39psi and 45psi... at 45, it was just heating the air and pushing drive pressures, so I've got it set at about 39psi now.

I bought the modified H1C as well from hytech turbo. I bought it exchange for $685 complete with a 16 housing and an HX40 wheel installed in a machined out H1C housing. I love it, since winter I have seen 43 PSI boost, EGTs are lower and it has a nice whistle to it, not too abnoxious, spools OK
Im very pleased with it. I was also told this would make a very good turbo to go with a twin set up some day

I know this is off subject of the Stage III turbo, but do our stock H1C turbos have ball bearings in them???

A buddy of mine that has an Audi TT with a turbo said ball bearing turbos are extremely expensive and that our trucks dont have them, rather they have bushings.....

Bearing turbos are a new thing and yes they are very expensive. There is one turbo that I know of that uses ball bearings that we can now get from Diesel Dynamics. However, all turbos except the ball bearing turbos will have a bushing sometimes called a "turbo bearing"

they're not roller bearings... they're bronze bushings... but they're called bearings... the same way that rod and main bearings aren't roller bearings...
