how much mileage increase after twins?
Well I'm gettin sick of waiting around for money to get new parts for my truck so that it can handle twin turbos. I've been driving the truck real nice the last few months and when I had the Aurora 5000 on as a single I could keep it under 40 lbs of boost just fine, so I got thinking and I'm to the point now where I just want to put the twins on. If I could keep them under 40 lbs and drive fairly nice like I have been and take advantage of the mileage and power til I can get studs and this 47rh in, then it should be worth doing right? I've got pretty much everything to install them, I'll just have to modify/weld up the cold pipe and see how well they fit in this old 1st gen. I'm sick of gettin 14-15 mpg and want to get better, I know the main reason is my sloppy stock trans, but twins should help also right? How much increase in mpg have you guys seen after going to a twin setup? I've heard some increasing a lot and others not much so I'd like your input. I'm just sick of looking at the turbo and piping sitting around in my shop doing me no good having them sit there.

If my memory serves me correct, I slipped the trans forward clutch first thing at the track after going to twins. Had to rebuild.
Getting all that out of the way, I couldn't say if there's an improvement if fuel economy. With me driving? Are you kidding?
While I don't do boosted launches at every stop-light, then turn around and do 70mph everywhere, I do enjoy the sensation of "PULL" while accelerating rapidly.
Yeah, .. . . NO, I'm not one to ask.

well if my tranny goes then it goes, its definately served its time. I got this 47rh about ready to go if it takes dump. I'm just really curious.
It should quiet the hood stack down a bit too... if it will still fit

I'm seeing a 20% reduction with only two or three acceleration burst per tank. Normal (casual) driving I'm seeing 10-15% worse economy.... However, driving it is far more of an experience everytime I climb into it. It really is all that and a bag of chips....
You won't regret it.

You have to remember that you'll be putting another restriction in both the intake and exhaust side of your engine.
Since a diesel's efficiency comes from it's ability to breathe, it makes some sense that you'll actually see some degradation in no-boost/low-boost economy. For a DD vehicle, I don't see it as being a very economical choice unless an extremely fast-spooling setup is chosen.
That's my outlook on it anyways.

Three or four months ago (+/-), I went to the beach and back and made an effort to drive responsibly and with thoughtful throttle application. While I did maintain the posted speed limits (and no less ), I made sure to be thrifty and keep the leaving a stop-sign smoke to an absolute minimum. A mix of 70mph interstate (aprox 1hr), and 55mph rural (aprox 2hrs) with the usual couple of small towns along the way stuff down to the usual 35mph beach traffic. Seems like I got around 350 miles out of about 25 gallons. While I don't recall the exact numbers, I do recall it wasn't too bad considering the size of my injectors and a 240,000 mile IP.
