Question How Much Can It Handle?

How much horse power can a stock A518 auto handle. i want to get injectors and a fuel plate but dont want to build the tranny yet. will it beable to handle 200hp? Thanks

no fuel plate with the VE pump.

check back through the last couple of pages on this forum, this topic was brought up.

200 hp shouldnt be a problem, but each tranny and each tranny's history are different. its all about the maintenance.

here is the thread tranny but i thought it talked more so on the power. either way, good info to get started.

its been a work horse? that being said, i am assuming you pull or haul a considerable amount of weight. the killer of the transmission is heat. get a temp gauge and monitor, especially before the mods to get a good baseline. also, get yourself a 2nd auxiliary cooler if you dont have one yet.

if you drive it like you hate it, better save your pennies for a rebuild.

i hualed 16 head of about 700 to 900lb heifers in an 18ft steel gooseneck stock trailer every weekend for about 2 or 3 months. so it's been worked. and my boss hauled cows all the time before i got it. thanks for the thread

Just dyno the truck after each bomb and when the trans pukes you`ll know what HP level did it

Well, FWIW mine is still in one piece...for now, I figger i`m around 250/maybe600.
