Hot Rod VE or Standard VE for drag truck????

Which should I get for a weekend driver and drag truck. Would a hot rod VE be worth it? I plan to make just enough power to run high 12's. I'm working on plans to swap in a built auto with a fully manual valve body too.

Of course with me plans change in a moments notice. lol

First i've heard of that. Where do you get your information, and who builds these "hot rod" pumps?

You need big injectors to get big power from the ve pump.

theres some guys on ebay building them, they cost close to the 2k mark but will supply you with plenty of fuel to get into the 12's. But you have to remember you need more then just fuel to hit the 12's.

KTA builds good pumps. Did you build yours Mr Ayers? A good 14mm H&R with some well built EDM's cannot be beat to date. And it's proven more reliable unlike the 4mm camplate combined with the H&R. Too much unknown there for me to drop 2k on a pump that so far the only one I heard of has siezed up??? For that money you can swap into a P-Pump.

KTA does build great pumps, but to my knowledge he hasnt messed with the 4mm camplate yet or atleast he hasnt commented on them. Yea, i sure did build mine, no one but me touches any thing on my rig. I just simply answered their question of buying a HR pump vs. a STD pump. If you go to buy one its gonna cost you an arm and a leg. That's why i built mine, i have to keep my arms and legs...and im working on building another minus the 4mm camplate.

Well I was wondering if you were going to venture into another 14mmH&R/4mm camplate pump or if you were going to just run a 14mm H&R.

So I could make 500whp with a standard VE, 14mm H&R, and big injectors? Where do I get this 14mm H&R and how difficultis it to install on the pump while its out?

I plan on running twins and as big of an intercooler as I can fit.

Also while I have it apart I'm putting in the 60# springs and my 4200rpm spring. Those mods and a well built automatic should be good for a 12 second run. Sticky tires too of course.

JAyers, I hope one day I can get my truck looking half as good as yours. Thats one nice 1st gen.

I would urge you to contact Brian Block aka KTA. Otherwise I believe Rockentech sells the head and rotors.

Thanks, its got it bad spots. I run Rocken-tech h&r they seem to be working out for me. And the ears on the camplate where broken off due to the seizing of the h&r. Putting a h&r on is not rocket science anyone that has a basic understanding of the VE and its internal workings and do the swap. The main thing is just to go slow and make sure everything goes right back where it came from.
