Help! I've got a faint squeel only when shutting down.
Help guys!
I've got a faint squeel coming from my engine only when I turn it off.
It just starts a slight squeel during the last two engine cycles (if that makes sense) after I've already turned to key to stop.
I don't hear the squeel when starting or running.
It's a '93 stock 12 valve with 253k. The only thing I did different right before it started squeeling is I added the IceBox Intake. Could this be it??
Is this just a belt? Pully bearing? turbo?
Their's no way it can be the main engine bearing right??
Thanks for your help guys, I sure do appreciate it!!

A drawn out squeal? Or a quick squeak/chirp when the engine stops?
Check your belt for damage. With the belt off, check all of your pulleys for squeaks, wobble/play or damage.

If its a quick squeal at shutdown its completely normal, just the belt slipping a little bit on the pulleys, alternator, etc. Almost all of them do it, except my Dad's 6.7... stupid technology.

When I first got my 93 I changed belts, alt. pulley, and idler pulley to stop the chirp. It lasted about 2 weeks and started again. It's just the normal shut down noise they make, cummins unique sound.

Before you install a new belt, you can take a wire brush and clean the excess rubber out of the grooves of all the pulleys. This will help the new belt seat all the way into all the pulleys and possibly keep it from squeaking.
I personally have no experience doing this, just something I heard or read somewhere, don't remember where though.

Do you have a video camera? If you could get a clip, post it on youtube so everyone can hear. Just a thought.

Id say just pull the belt and check all your pulleys still. Also pay extra attention to the bearing that your fan rides on. Mine was worn and had play in it, but it didnt squeak or squeal at all. Perhaps yours is out as well and you just cant hear it till the rest of the motor is quiet. It could be anything. Dont leave any stone unturned.

I'll go pull the belt soon. If I find anything I'll let you guys know.
Thanks a lot for your help!
