I'm no expert by no means at this, but did you just get a wheel only? No compressor housing upgrade as well? I bet that stage 3 wheel won't fit the baby nonIC'd compressor housing. Probly needs the IC'd c-housing.

If it's a Stage 3 (60mm 8 blade wheel) you shouldnt need a backing plate, but like bgilbert said you need a compressor housing. I think when most people talk about modifying the turbo to work with a non-IC truck they are just talking about the crossover tube. The new compressor housing (I think) has a 2.5" discharge, whereas the regular non-IC discharge is 2". I've had my housing off once just to see what it was like and the only problem I ran into was one of the heat-exhanger (I think thats what it's called) lines was in the way, but I just had to put the housing on with the smallest part toward the line, then clock it how I needed it.
