Help! blue smoke troubles...shuts down...
Ok so I picked up this 1990 CTD that sat for 2 years with a bent frame. (that I didn't know before I paid the guy)
I basicly did a frame up resto on it. I got it all back together and started BUT, it only runs for 40-60 seconds before it acts like it's loading up and shuts down. Blueish white smoke comes out the pipe when this happens. when you first start it it runs great! For 40-60 seconds.
I need suggestons please.
New fuel lines, new fuel filter, filled the filter and pumped the lift pump after installing it. There was no water in the old fuel filter I checked.
Air in the lines yet? Too much fuel?
Any help would be wonderful,
Tony

On the suction side of the LP? What's a LP? I'm new to the CTD stuff....... Lift Pump? Brand new steel lines, rubber lines, and hose clamps from the tank front.
No I don't think it was on E-bay but he did have two other trucks on E-bay.
Thanks guys

Check all the connections. Just cause it's new dosen't mean it ain't leaking. Also wouldn't hurt to check LP pressure if you can.

Does it have a miss, sound like it hydro locking a loud hammer sound? If so could have a bad injector or two.Or might have a stuck ring, all can be caused from setting.

no knocking just starts to bog down and then shut off with the bluish white smoke coming out.
Would it shut down with only two injectors clogged?
I checked the lines for leaks, everything is tight.
It will stay running if I keep the throttle pulled back 1/4 to 1/2 way. BUT if I open it up slowly it gains no RPMs. I'm taking it that it's staving for fuel. I guess I'll have to pull the injectors now.
Is there a way to clean them? Or do I have to get new ones?
I guess I'll try a lift pump first at $71 compared to $150 a piece for injectors......

I had the return line fed into the pump, and the feed line into the return line........ I guess when I put the new lines in they got switched somewhere along the line.......
Thanks again and now you all have a new one to remember for the next guy. HE HE HE......
