Our 91 had a autometer 2/16 4000rpm tach in it that was hooked to the alternator.
It is hooked to the factory harness and is not accurate at all. Reads about 350-400 RPM at idle and 1200 or so off idle.

It dosent have an alternator probe. It was designed to run off a distributor pick-up and has settings for 4,6,8cyl. I just thought I would try it.

That tach was not just thrown in for a pic. I installed it very carefully with quite a bit of forthought into instalation and future removal for maintence and repair when needed. It is still located in my truck just as pictured.

There is the answer. But I'm trying to come up with a way to overcome this obstacle......

Dakota digital makes a tach converter box. They say it can read as low as a 1 volt signal. That is about the only low voltage converter box out there that I know of.

That is how it is done in semi tractors.
Yes. There's a how-to article on TDR on how to rewire the Nippondenso alternator.

VDO makes (or made) a tach drive that runs off the front of the injection pump. It replaces the oil fill elbow so you'd need a rocker cover with an oil fill to go along with it.

I think there is a wright up in the sticky about using the "w" terminal on the alternator? Maybe it was the "r" terminal, but I have definitely seen a wright up somewhere on how to hook a tach up that way. If it's not here it might be on cummins forum.

So i have a 92 dodge w250 cummins and it has the wires for the tachometer i know this for a fact. I just orderd autometer coblt series pyrometer, boost, and trans them gauges for my truck and ive changed all of my dash lights to l.e.d. blue to match so i was wondering if any one has found a autometer tach that will hook the the whires i have and work accurately if not if theres a inverter kit i can get that will make an autometer tach work with the factory wires?
