Heads lights are dim. How do i make them brighter?

I have replaced my headlights about three times and they are all still dim. is there a white light for that i can get for my 89 d250? if there is a white light for my truck are they brighter than the regular lights? Or how can i make my headlights brighter?

Look for other posts on that subject and you will find that the most popular fix is to rewire the head lights with heavier wire and relays. The factory wire can't carry the load and the resultant voltage drop causes dim lights. THe relays take the head light load off the headlight switch which can get in the habit of melting if you increase the load on it by going to higher wattage bulbs.

What boatnik said, rewire with relays. you won't believe the diff!! here is a attached wiring diagram for relays. I did not put the third one in. Hope it helps. and go to the sticky, has a good link there for headlight relays.

What they said X three.

Take a look at the headlight ground wires; I have seen bigger wires inside pocket calculators.

You should also try Sylvania Silverstar headlights. Even without relays, mine are UBER bright. I also have Hella lenses though, I'm sure that helps. Get your relays in and throw in a set of silverstars, you'll look like a freight train drivin down the road

Come right out of your factory plug where it plugs into the headlight.. I used spade connectors....that leaves your factory setup intact in case something in you conversion goofs up....

90firstgen,
How did you get hellas put in? Where did you get them at? Do the hellas fit into where your headlights are or did you have to do some mods? Also did you still do the re-wiring?
thanks

The hellas are a whole replacement headlight. But instead of a sealed beam, they use an H4 or a 9003 bulb. (I think those are the correct numbers) It's practiaclly the same bulb but the 9003's use 5 more watts. I use the H4's as to lessen the load on my headlight switch as I am still using factory wiring. There's other companies that sell headlight assemblies too. My buddy has glass ones that came with his pickup when he bought it. They're really nice but I'm not sure who makes them. I would imagine places like Jegs carry a few different lines of manufacturers for them. The original is an H6054 sealed beam. Do some searching on the net for that.
