headgasket problem
I'm thinking i popped the head gasket today. Coming up a hill I put the skinny pedal to the floor for a few seconds, and a couple seconds later smelled something burning. I limped home and opened the hood to find coolant all over the back of the engine/ engine bay. I'm assuming the Cummins HG is the best one, but do i want to get the standard one or a thicker one? I will be getting it decked and possibly orings before it goes back together.

most likely a head gasket. What were you pushing for boost? I dont know if the 1st gens are common for blowing out the freeze plug under the bellhousing of not but thats one other thing to take into consideration. my self i would go with a standard hg depending on how much you are going to have plained off. thicker gasket lower comp ratio less power. im sure someone else who has done a 1st gen will chime in. if nothing else its a bump to the top.
