I wouldn't dare try anything aftermarket for this repair, use Cummins parts only please.

I used the balancer and it's bolts to pull/install the wear sleeve. You don't need the high dollar install tool. A good Cummins manual is handy, but if I remember right, it said to clean the crank up good, oil it and the wear sleeve (although don't quote me on the oiled part) to aid the install.

Yep, oil the sleeve and crank, then clean everything up real good because it must be oil free when the seal goes on. QD contact cleaner is your friend.

I should have done the head gasket I think. Looks like I have a new crust forming.... I was really hoping it was the thermostat housing, but I guess I knew better.

No doubt you will need a head gasket at some point. You will need an engine hoist or a friend with a strong back and a weak mind to get the head back on.
