hard start after fuel gel
Need some opinions, truck has always been an easy starter. Ve rebuild about 90,000 miles ago, new lift pump about 50,000 miles ago. Fuel pin up to just short of run away dead. Added ic last fall. Had Fuel gel at -24 about 6 weeks ago. Got truck into heated garage, replaced filter started with 2 brief bursts of either. Since then starts ok If tank full to 3/4 full ( needs slight depression of pedal which it did not need before) 1/2 to 3/4 tank needs pedal half way down and several seconds of cranking. Under 1/2 tank hold pedal to floor lots of cranking and very stubborn start. Run fine once started. Also complete rebuild of tranny including tv cable late summer. What would you look at first?

Thanks for the response, that would make sense and have considered it, but from where that would be affected by Fuel level? Fuel line to tank seal? More fuel less abilty to suck air?

Fuel jelling can do a lot of weird and unexpected damage. Been there. From what you describe I'd suspect the lift pump is roached. The lower the fuel level, the more effort requires to move the fuel from the tank to the injection pump.

Thanks cougar i had thought about the lift pump but had dismissed that because of how new it is compared to the injection pump. If you are correct i am causing un needed wear on a $1,000 part for want of a $100 part.

A mechanical gauge screwed into the fuel filter bleeder screw hole can tell you pretty quick.
