my 1992 w250 dodge is hard to get in and out of four wheel drive any suggestions

It might be the shifter seizing on the shaft. Get under the truck and spray all the linkage and pivot joints. Its best to do it while someone else is moving the shifter back and forth.

Also trying shifting it while you are parked or at least at a stop with tranny in Netural

5 speed or auto? with my 5-speed, i just get on the throttle a little, and once I back off, it slides right in/out.

My autotransmission keeps it tight. Though I can shift from 2high to 4high on the fly...going in and out of 4low is tough. Like said above, the truck has to be on level ground in neutral, w/o brakes, so everything in the driveline is relaxed. Sometimes it takes me a few tries to get it out of 4low.

i hav the same problem ill be in 4x4 low and being really hard on it and then when takeing it out i could pull as hard as posible on the shifter and it wont come out but if i put it in reverse then forward then reverse and back to N it will slip right out
why is that

Because there is pressure between the axles and until it is unbound it will not come out of lock.

Mine is extremely hard to get out of 4hi, it's a pain having to make the sharp turn onto the return road at PIR.

I think I can shift in and out 4hi on the fly, ie in gear driving down the road

yes u can shift into and out of 4hi only if the hubs are locked sooo that way both drive shafts move at the same speed if not then it makes gears gind lol

I have found that in my case if I put pressure on the lever and blip the throtle, it will usually shift out of four wheel high easy enough.

On my 89 when I drag race I slip it out of 4 wheel in the shut down area before I make the turn. Pops right out.
