Kinda sucks, as one who has done due diligence on protecting himself, his family, and his homestead is now in fear for his life for doing what everyone knows (in their own minds) what they themselves would have done.

I just don’t see myself or anyone calmly negotiating with a crazed rapist/druggie/thief in the middle of the night, discussing that maybe it’s best for the both of (us) if he just leaves, so no one gets hurt and I don’t risk getting myself getting in trouble if I harm him(the crazed rapist/druggie/thief). Do you think he would oblige?

Unfortunately California is one of the worst states for relating against self defense. A couple months ago here a couple guys broke into a house while the home owner was home. The home owner shot and killed one of them the other ran out and was chased down and shot (but survived) by a neighbor. Neither the home owner or the neighbor were charged or even arrested.
