Happier about the Getrag today
Well, I'm alot happier today. Just spoke with my tranny-man regarding my getrag. I was nervous when I pulled it out because there were metal flakes in the oil. Tranny-man pulled it down and said that all the bearings were shot and that's what caused the failure. He said one syncro looked worn also. Apparently there's like 8 bearings that ride between the gears. He said 2 of them were VERY bad and thats what was causing the metal flakes in my fluid. He also wants to replace the shift forks. He said I should notice a world of difference in noise reduction and smoothness of the tranny. Further, he suggested to place a magnet in the bottom pan of the transmission pan itself. He said with all the moving metal parts inside this would help in removing any floating metal particles (if there were any from wear) in the future.
Anyways, I'm a lot happier now that I know I don't have any major parts that were broken. Should only be a few hundred dollars now instead of 1600 for a reman.

Magnets are good.
When you get the trans back, fill it with standard 5W-30, run it for 2 or 3k, then dump it. That will get rid of the trash from the new synchros - it'll look like gold glitter that first change.
