bigbaddiesel416 i'm not doubting what your saying. I've had pumps turned up on things other than the little cummins and wanted them set at some rpm other than stock. I've watched a couple on the stands and they did everything that I ask for then installed on the truck and they didn't rpm as they should have. I'd call back and discuss this and most of the shops I dealt with have a generic set of "test injector" for the stand. This may be where your pump shop got the info of it fueling to where you say it does. But if it will wind 4000 put the heavy valve springs in it. Dropping a valve in one of these things can break Ft. Knox. You seem to love your old truck, show it some love and put the 60lb springs in it. What injectors do you run? Get you pump tested with the same injectors that your running to get an accurate fuel rate and output. Good luck with it.

It should wine to 4000 rpm but its gonna be defueling wayyyyy before that with the stock lift pump and the pump mods. Even with a good lift pump setup 4000rpm is just noise, not power.

crossys son ........so if it stops fuleing at 35-3800 why can my tach reak 4000+ and the egts still rising and got me pined in the seat

I have no doubt that the pump is delivering enough fuel to accelerate the truck at 4500 RPM.
What you will find is that when dynoed, the truck will make peak power at 3200 RPM or below. Above that it will taper off regardless of the governor spring used. There's nothing wrong with winding it tighter than that, but it's really only useful for pulling where you are trying to get good wheel speed while still being in a low enough gear to start the sled.

bingo that is making power........................accelerate = power made
its making it just not as much as @ 3000-3500 or whatever
well i drag race so the only reason i rev to 4000 is to be able to get the max length out of every gear = less shifting = better times
not trying to start a fight but it works for me and thats good enough!

There are folks out there, that have way more money and time than anyone here. I'm in the same boat. This just might be the year for a VE to break 700hp And fuel at 4000rpm. Ole boy out of WA is playing with a VE. Looks like he might do it without going to a 14mm.

i want to see a video of your tach at 4000 rpm, and still wondering why your valves are not bent, seems to me that after 18 years of hard service those valve springs would keep a valve from floating, crossy

I get my info from my head and staring at alot of dyno screens. A 3200 spring will give you about 34-3500 rpm max and even then you can feel it not making any power up there.
I'll shave my head the day i see a VE pump fuel to 4500 rpm. seriously, i'll wax it with ducttape and prove i did it if someone shows me a VE pump fuels to 4500 rpm. EVEN 4000 rpm.

Time and money. I have alot of one but little of the other. If I had plenty of money I'd sure enough be sorry. I've talked to a couple of pump shops in and around Houston and get the same thing "BS", can't make power with a VE get a P-Pump. So about the next thing they here is click. Who has the best pump shop "man I just opened a can of worms" for cranking a VE. The engine on the engine stand is going to need alot of fuel. Any ideas who has the most knowledgeable pump shop. Thanks and sorry for opening the can o worms.

The local pump shop in Blackwood, NJ says that too.
"the rotaries are junk, get a inline P7100"
They say VE's are junk but yet the guy stocks 3200 springs and every other component of a VE pump....

Giles at performancediesel.ca makes the best ve pumps for volkswagens. Lots of timing and governer mods. He is very experienced with modifying ve's. If my pump wasn't freshly rebuilt I would be sending it to him.
