green paint on conecting rods

I took my oil pan off today and noticed my connecting rod caps have big green dots painted on them. I don't know the history off this truck and am wondering does this signify anything? Maybe they are oversized or something or do they all have that on them?

I rember seeing some on a few of mine. Not sure why. I used the standard sized bezrings with no problems yet. They fit pretty snug in there.

I cant remember why they are painted but it does not signify oversize bearings. Rolled new mains and rods in a couple weeks back and mine were painted.

I used to work for John Deere at their Engine factory in Dubuque, Iowa (befire they shut it down and started building engines in Mexico!), but anyway, we used to have various things that we would put paint dots or marks on. Many of the times it was a verification thing for the guys working on the assembly line. In this instance, maybe Cummins did something similar. We used to have the assembler that torqued the rod caps use a certain color of paint marker, and once torqued, would mark each one to verify and onform others down the line that the rods were torqued. That would be my guess on why you have some paint marks on your rods.

Cummins does the same thing. The marks are used for quality control

Yup...standard proceedure at most automotive manufacturing plants. Look at a 2nd or 3rd gen steering shaft and you'll see our marks.
