gray valve cover gaskets?

The link in the sticky says don`t use the gray ones, use the black ones. Well I went to Cummins dealer yesterday before reading the sticky and they gave me the gray ones. Whats the deal? What`s wrong with the gray ones?
Oh, also the cam button for TDC is froze up. Is there another way to adjust the valves? I want to do that while I`m in there

If you got it from Cummins, then it is the right one.

I've always believed the gray ones to be the best ones too. They've been on my truck, leak free, for several years.

i think the gray ones are the ones to get. I've heard they are softer and you can re use them. Mine have been on for a few years and so far so good

As far as re-using them, I've found the gray ones like to pop off the valve cover as soon as you remove it, then they won't stay on long enough to put the cover back on the engine. The solution I've had luck with was to stick the gasket in the freezer for a little while. They tend to co-operate better when they are cold.

I just ordered some from Cummins Northwest and they are grey. I've had the grey ones on my 93 for a few years and all is good.
