The GPSs have come down in price , ... I got a Garmin nuvi255 for $100- (++) = $115 out the door. This indicates not only road speed but also speed limit on US roads. On trips where the hwy goes thru small towns (eg US #2 thru Mich, N.Dakota etc) it also shows the thru routes with local street names , ... every town has a more convoluted thru route than the last one but the Garmin got me lost not once! Probably saved me two hours on a 40 hour trip. I don't leave home without it. True story about the update cable; it's a very common USB connection that bundles with half the digital cameras and USB splitters, ... don't pay $20 for one!

I use a Tom Tom XL 340s it was on sale at staples, works great even changes the speed when the signs do on the highway, best one ive used to date, think it was around $129 on sale, sure keeps me from having the law after me.

What about using one for an overall odometer and a trip mile meter? My speedo still works but both mileage meters quit (dont really wana tear apart the dash to replace the lil gears for it, and im keepin this truck til it rots and dies anyway, so no chance of fraud to the next seller). I know its cheaper to fix odometer, but wouldnt mind a GPS anyways,

here are some pics of mine. As far as I know we don't have a law saying I can't stick it to the windshield. Mine came with the suction cup mount for the windshield plus a separate disc you can stick to the dash with double sided tape, then attach the mount to it instead. It was like $120 from best buy a week ago.

My view

Neat thing with the garmin is you can change the cursor. I happen to have an r/c car for mine, but they have quite a few different options.

Trip and Odometer screen.

This is the mount mine came with

I have a Garmin nuvi 1490T.

On sale at Costco for $170, including the $30 instant rebate.

I like the 5" screen.....................and the "max mph" feature.
