got "out-towed" by my buddys 02 cummins today
Went out to plaster city for a desert run, friday night. I towed out my ranger with my 92 5 speed. my buddy towed out his toyota with his 02 auto. He had quite a lead on me anytime it came to a steep hill, my baby didnt want to go much over 50-55 on the nice climbs, his would let him take them at about 70.... I was hoping to show him up with my first gen, didnt work out quite like planned. His truck is stock, and mine has a banks stinger plus kit on it. we straight piped both trucks. Guess his was just blessed with a little more kick.

The 92 has those cute little injectors which limit how much you can turn it up. My early 91 puts plenty of fuel out and the only limit is my temp's. There are lots of things which can limit your truck. How new is your fuel filter? When floored is your linkage letting the pump top out. It should touch the top governor setting. Everything helps.

For me the bright side was the lack of payment on the first gen.

Well the payment issue is nice, I payed a little under half what he payed for his truck. And my truck out travels him by a good 5 mpg, I just didnt think the gap when towing would be THAT distinctive. Unloaded my truck hangs with his till 20-25 mph, then he gains distance when im in third, then i can pass him before 60 ( good ol 4th), i find it interesting that there difference is so big, loaded vs unloaded.
My next step is the spring, cause im hoping to get some more highway speeds out of it. Im very mechanically inclined, just not necessarily a quick learner. Im kinda hesitant to dig into the pump, with no actual experience with the beast yet. Eventually ill gather to nerve to dive in and add the spring, plus turn a few screws.

don't worry about digging into that thing. it's really not that difficult once you do it the first time. just has a high pucker factor i guess. but once you "drop" stuff in there and what not, you'll realise it's not that bad.
oh yeah, welcome. AND, once you start turning stuff on that thing yer buddy is going feel pretty bad.

ooh when you add the spring he'll have nothing on you. That five speed is hurting you down in the lower gears espiecially with the stock defuel-o-matic spring. The race after the spring he's gonna say "how much did you spend" and you'll say $15. And he'll think your fibbing.

3200 spring and timing....
I just searched and cant find ANY mention of changing timing when installing the 3200 spring, but i swear I read somethign about the timing needing to be adjusted. Can anyone comfirm this please. Im contemplating ordering the spring, any other parts that are necessary, or just make sense to do at the same time since im there..... Thanks ahead of time. Also, I cant see my own signature, but i filled it out. does it show up for you guys?
