Talking got a new trick for drilling EGT hole in maniflod.

I came up with a pretty cool trick for drilling the EGT hole without worry of the shavings getting in the manifold. Stuffed a towel in the exhaust pipe and started it up. the towel creates back pressure but lets it still run. Drill the hole and the back pressure blows out the hole before the shavings ever get a chance to fall in. Being diesel exhaust at idle its not hot enough to burn you instantly. Using a little drease on the bit also helps catch most shavings.

Hey, i know it sounds crazy, but it works great.

been doing that for a long time, but it is always good to remind some of us old farts, or for the new folks.

Instead of a paper towel, I put duck tape over the the end of the exhaust. I cut about a 2 inch hole in the middle, and it worked pretty good.

I guess great minds think alike. I thought I came up with something original.

Here's what I did. I was fortunate to find that the bolts that hold the turbine housing to the manifold were easily loosened. I loosened them so that there was maybe a 1/2" gap between the two housings. Then I drilled the hole, not worrying about shavings. Then I fashioned a plate out of very thin aluminum, a pop can may even work, that slid down between the studs that hold the manifold to the housing. I made sure the plate was resting tight against the turbine housing. Then I started her up. The exhaust blew all the shavings out of the manifold but the aluminum plate didn't let them enter the turbine!

I bet that sounded nice and loud.

I did somewhat the same thing as Tuckerdee except, I used cardboard from a cereal box. After drilling, I blew out the shavings with an airhose. Worked great.

Now we need to come up with a cap for the end of the exhaust that we can hook an airline up to and pressurize the system with a regulator.

It's raining here and I'm bored. Sorry.

We used a magnet about 2" in diameter and the center hole was just a little bigger than the bit. Magnet get the shavings.
