Talking Got the Monster ATS Aurora 5000 on...

Well after a week of fitting and waiting for the discharge adapter to come. I finally got the ATS Aurora 5000 turbo on. I had to do some fitting though since this thing is so big. I had to use a flex drain line and a longer hose, bend the oil cooler line back because it would hit the compressor housing. And then i had to remove the washer fluid bottle because of the huge charge pipe(actually the guy i got it from just cut it off of the twin pipe so it is a huge 3" elbow) and then I had to get a 3" piece of exhaust bent into an S-shape to get it to match up to my intercooler. This turbo was kinda a pain to get on to since it weighs about 40 lbs, and my HE351 only weighed about 25 lbs. But in the end, it is all worth it. This thing flat out rips now. It does take a while to spool(especially compared to my HE351) but it feels very similar to the ol stock h1c with the 21cm housing, it just has a lot more kick when it spools and cools much better. It has so much mid to top end power. It really takes off after 15 to 20 psi. I can hit over 40 lbs, but haven't dared gone past that yet... I'm guessin it'll hit 45 or 50 lbs... But this thing sounds awesome and has a much deeper sound to it now. I'll have to post some pics and maybe a vid tomorrow. Thanks again for all the help guys!!!

I wonder what the power difference is between that and the he351.

How much are the temps down from the he351 to that aurora?

Okay I'll try and get a vid up. I have stupid dial up so it takes a year for it to upload, but maybe I'll got to my buddies house and use his internet. I'll be gone all next week so I'll try and get one up by tomorrow.

Im glad to hear the 5000 runs good. Ive been thinking about either a 3000 or 4000, but wasnt sure if it would spool fast enough to get me down the track.

I think this turbo with a quick spool cam, 60 lb springs, a 4200rpm governor spring, a lot of timing, some bigger sticks and head work, maybe some nos and I think it would really throw down some power for a big single and be a good quick spooling race setup. I am very impressed by it. I'm half temptin to leave it on and run in the 2.8 street class next month when I do the truck pulls. But I don't wanna blow my head gasket...

Also this thing kinda sputters down when i let off of the throttle anything over 15 lbs of boost. It sounds kinda like my ol H1c used to when i let off. Is this okay or is this barkin the turbo???? You can see it on my boost gauge too, the needle will move with the sputter.

no its just compressor surge. Basicaly the boost pressure has exceded the drive pressure when you let off. Turbo bark is pretty loud and different sounding.

alright good to know, I was a little worried. My HE351 didn't do that. This thing is so much louder and deeper sounding though. The Hood stack is almost annoying now. With the HE351, it was pretty quiet. Now its a a deeper drone while driving.

The compressor housing is about 1 1/2" away from the manifold. And with that oil cooler line, its a tight fit.

geez, that thing is huge!!!!! I didnt realize it was that much bigger than a 35. I've seen the 5000 on duramaxes, but they are half covered up. That thing must be close to a 70mm turbo! How small is the exhaust side of it? It must be fairly small for you to be hitting such high boost.
