Got flex plate?
Aloha people! So the flex plate gave way and left me at a busy intersection yesterday after work. Had it towed back to the yard. Looking to upgrade to a second gen. flex plate. Aiming for around 400-ish horsepower in the end. Some have posted that they had an upgraded flex plate fail also. How strong is it OR... should I just give in a spend big bucks on a billet??? Don't really want to spend $400 on a flex plate. Thanks for any input, guys.

I have been told that the 2nd gen will hold up pretty well, particularly because we never have the stress of lock up. when i put in my 2nd genner i compared it to the first gen and it is a bit thicker.
I cant imagine a billet one could be a whole lot stronger, i mean the area where they break is only 1/8th inch thick anyways!
I'm in the same boat as you, shooting for 400ish hp

Thanks for the reply. Sounds good enough so I'm sold. Just called my friend who is a mechanic at Cummins West here on Oahu. He'll be getting it for me at his employee price.

Would a flexplate from a 94 suffice? For some reason, I'm thinking that I read they didn't improve until 95 and later...?

David, I meant literally. A friend has his old flex plate from his 94. He upgraded to a billet. He offered his old stock one but for some reason, I thought I read that it wasn't improved until 95; heat treating or other method...?

Well, if you get the '94 for a good price, (read: free!) and your truck isn't moving due to not having a FP, even if the '94 is inferior it's still going to be better than what you've got now, don't you think? Even for the above mentioned $20 it's a cheap fix.

I'm getting an OEM from Cummins for $130-ish w/ sales tax. On the other hand, the TQ I ordered from Suncoast was $1075 w/ shipping! Lucky me living in Hawaii.
