The Prestone 100% isn't low silicate..... it's NO silicate. Read the fine print, upper left hand corner, back of bottle. Says no silicate. Used a couple bottles last month and had to make sure before I bought it.

I thought as long as it was green that's all that matters. If you put the wrong in what's it do? I just filled mine with some that is ASTMD 4340/3306.

Years ago, green colored coolant was indicative of a conventional IAT formulation;however, coolant color is no longer a good indicator of the formulation. The oem's have their blenders dye their coolants a different color, which makes it difficult to differentiate because there is no standardization in place. The colors are essentially meaningless as far as identifying what formulation it is. Look at the list of four HOAT coolants listed in my last post.

Many coolants meet the ASTM standards you mentioned. What coolant did you use?

About 2 weeks after I replaced the coolant I was struck down by Murphy"s Law, I kept smelling anti-freeze and I found a very small leak in the core so I went to my local radiator shop and had a new 3-row High Density radiator built, Rick the owner told me he custom built it for me and reinforced the sides of the core to better withstand the harsh ride of the truck.

After draining the coolant and replacing the radiator, I filtered the old anti-freeze through a cotton cloth and poured it back in.

Also if you do not replace your anti-freeze it becomes more acidic and corrosive as it is used and can do more harm than it does good, you can check it periodically using special test strips or you can just replace it at a regular interval.

I also have to regularly flush and replace the coolant in my computer however for that I have to use propylene glycol

Yes I built this computer a couple of years ago around an Intel 3.8Mhz Dual Core processor and to keep the temperature down I installed and modded a Corsair Hydro Cool 200, I have larger lines to the water block but still have the stock Bosch water pump and radiator.

It has 6 internal case fans, 651-watt power supply, 6 internal and 3 external hard drives.

And it is time to build another one but I will not install Vista or Windows-7 on it.

I sold a stand-by generator that had a 4-cylinder DJC Onan Air Cooled Diesel engine.

The stuff I used was O'Reilly brand coolant. Shows to contain silicate.

I buy Prima Tech 100% conventional 2 year coolant from my local Fleet Pride semi shop. It is always $12.50 Gal. and is 4985 ATSM. Coming from the 7.3 trucks where cavitation was a risk with poorly maintained coolant, I am paranoid about changing out coolant on time. On that rig I used to use the Pencool 3000 SCA also and test periodically for correct PPM.
