Here's the cab stripped of all the factory finish and someone elses repaint. After stripping I da'd the bare metal with 180 grit paper. I gutted the interrior except for the dash. I wasn't going to do the jambs but I decided to anyway so they just got scuffed.
I see why they had a problem with that factory paint as it was very soft but the factory primer adhered very well to the metal.
After a prep wash I will spray epoxy primer then address the body work. Stripping showed more bondo work than I knew about but at least it wasn't covering rust...man I hate doing bondo work as it just takes me a long time to get it right, I gotta hand it to the pros as they make it look so easy.

OK, so here's the cab ready for paint, body work is done and it's sealed under epoxy primer like the bed. Now I just have the fenders, hood, cowl, valance, and tailgate to do.
Once I finished the cab I addressed the frame, it was in good shape so I just wire brushed and scraped it, then I hooked my pressure washer to my boiler for a hot water wash, about 160-170 degrees, that worked well. Then it was two coats of rust encapsulator and a coat of chassis black.
Since it's down this far, I installed the urethane body mounts to help locate everything again.
That roof repair actually turned out better than I expected, like my Dad says, even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

looks good man, looks like you and I are about at the same stage...Are you gonna paint everything off the truck and then assemble it.. I think that is what I am going to do, because I want to paint the cowl area real good... Did you take everything down to bare metal on the body parts?? Also how do you like the epoxy primer?? Oh ya what color you goin with too.. It is a race to the finish line..lol What is your goal on timeframe??

I did strip everything down to bare metal and I like the epoxy, it doesn't seem any different from spraying the other primers. I am using as a sealer, I did use a product called slicksand which is a very high build polyester primer and that is what I blocked out with 220 320 and 400.
I am going with the original blue and silver and I am going to paint the pinstripe on and it will be under the clear also, so everything will have to be assembled, I will actually be shooting three colors before the clear.
I will do the jambs and inside the fenders and inner fenders while it is apart and mask that stuff off. My time frame was to be done by the end of June, so you already beat me.

Finally got some color sprayed
OK, here's the inner fenders, inside fenders, radiator support and under hood with some color on. Next is the jambs and cowl, then I will assemble everything and get some paint on the exterior. It's good to be looking at something other than primer.

lookin good...what color blue is it?? I will be painting my box,cab,inner fenders and some misc pieces this weekend... Lots of work!!
How big of a pain is taking the glass out of the doors?? Have everything else out but that??

It's Banzi blue metallic, I think the code is B4. The glass isn't a big deal to remove, with the door panels off you will be able to see where it's attached. Good luck on the paint this weekend.

looks good man...I should have some pics of mine by the weekend... Got the box, cab, misc pieces all done.. My buddy who sprayed it is just finishing up the wet sanding process... I'm hping by the first of oct to be done!!

Did you clear all that stuff? I always wondered, if it were a show car finish how you wouldn't notice the overspray that gets in the jambs when you shoot the outside. Looks great! Can we convince you to do a first gen road tour. Every two weeks another owner's garage hosts the event. Imagine how fast you get doing the same routine all the time.

DNR, lets see the pics, what color did you go with?
Powerrammaster, that's base/clear in there, and I have a lot tape and masking to do to minimize the overspray. That road tour sounds interesting.
