Getting harder to start...advise?

lift pump
I had trouble starting my 2500 99 Dodge Cummins with 147,000 after it had not run for about 8 hrs or more. I have 2 diesel tractors that sit for months and start on the first crank so I know there was a problem. I had the lift pump replaced with a new Cummins pump but it still had problems starting although the dealer could not find any code problems on any parts of the engine. The problem is inside in the fuel tank. There is a check valve that appears to wear out. It is in an assembly about a foot long and 6" in diameter. The Dodge dealer told me this part is no longer available so I had a Dodge replacement fuel pump installed inside the fuel tank by the dealer at a cost of $700. It starts now without a problem. Hope you don't have the same problem but this seems to fix it.

Could it be the lift pump going bad and letting the fuel drain back? Runs great once it's going, but the initial startup is getting pretty bad pretty quickly. Thanks,

Well, truck sat for the past week while I was in Ohio. Got back, popped the hood and hand pumped the lift pump a handfull of times, turned the key and it fired right up without missing a beat. Consensus seems to be the check valve in the tank 'eh?
