Smile Getrag rebuild

Hi All,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am having the old getrag rebuilt here in Susanville, California. The guy rebuilding it has done a lot of them and is honest as they come. I got to 384,000 miles and the trans decided to only go into 4th gear,( direct through the mainshaft ). Anyway, if anyone needs a good getrag rebuilder in Norcal, PM me and I will give his number. On a side note, my clutch is the original and would have gone another 50,000 if this had not happened. What a GREAT TRUCK.

Careful - some around here take a pretty dim view of the ol 'rag. But I doubt any would argue with that last sentence!

I had about 378,000 on the stock trans and clutch. but i was driving down the road about 70mph and the thing just locked up and i skided of the road. NOT FUN. It made no sound and was working just fine up tell then. I then converted to a NV4500 and coustom duel spring sacs with a 6 puck seramic disk. the thing is it never gave any hint of troble. this also hapend to a guys jeep that we put a 4bta air to water,g-rag, marryed ford 205 and a 44 and 60 8 lug out of a old 3/4 ton ford we had around. the g-rag was out of a 92 dodge with a cummins that was working but I was upgrading with my other NV4500. It lasted less than 300 miles and came apart. they just dont give mutch warning. if you have one i would keep a conversinon in the back of your mind. P.S. I can help you with all the stuff and specs

Most guys are actually suprisingly more against the NV's then the getrags nowadays. The getrags are actually built a bit stronger and the only disadvantage is the lack of lubrication to the inputshaft bearing which seems to be solved with the overfilling. The only reason dodge switched at the time was because the nv's were cheaper. Me personally I'll keep rebuilding my getrag

had a 4 speed in a 77 chev 4x4 that ripped the clutch hub out. so i replace clutch looked inside trans put all back together test driving and tires skidded then freed up no clutch alot of racket again with the clutch hub ripped up. well after alot of head scratching and talking found out bearings in countershaft were worn causing it to lockup momentarily . new bearings in trans and down the road we went.
