Getrag lube swap

Dont recall if I posted this previosly, but I swapped over to Redline MTL 75-80 gl4 lube. In my opinion a gl4 gear lube will do a better job protecting gears than engine oil. The GL4 has a similar viscosity to SAE 5-30 so shifting is good as well. Also because its a manual transmission lube, it has the friction modifiers to help the stop rings work correctly. You might give it a look next time you change fluids.

That is an interesting science project. Keep us posted on long term pros and cons. I currently don't have any issues with my G360s. However, I do keep the oil (Mobil 1) changed regularly and overfill.

Do you run coolers on your tranny?

Thanks for the update!

I have finned coolers on mine, it sure makes draining and re/over filling easy and has ports for temp gauge sender. It also allows for a 3 quart overfill, but the price has sure gone up since I bought mine...Mark

Thanks Mark.

I keep looking at them. Pulling the shifter out to refill is a pain, so the ease of refilling and the extra capacity of the coolers is worth it in my book

Curious what the Redline MTL is costing you?

I've had good luck with 5W50 motor oil. (castrol synthetic)

I think I've got the shifter removal down pretty good. Its still my preferred fill technique over trying anything under the truck.

I plan to change my oils next weekend assuming it doesn't rain. I have a right angle pipe fitting with a plug to get about a quart extra in the regular filling port. I plan to use a hand pump which I got at O'Reilly's a while back to pump in the oil.

The Dodge FSM says to use Automatic Transmission fluid in the G360. The rebuilder told me to use 10w30 motor oil. Yes! Please let us know how the gear oil you plan to use works out.

Ive run a cooler on it since 1994. I like to think I was the inventor. I have a cooler and fan underneath between cab and frame. Its all automatically controlled with a thermal switch.. the pump is on the outlet side of cooler as that helps pump life..

I just pull the cooler line stick it in the jug and it sucks in 4.x quarts.

just bought it on ebay. I dont recall price, but its not changed too often so it wont hurt to pay a bit for it.

The OEM fill was 5-30 in the 1st gen trucks. The MTL is a gl4 that has similar viscosity to sae 5-30. So far I really like it. Got a long haul in June pulling my 48ft trailer at 25,000 lbs...
