My 93 had what I think was gear oil in the getrag when I got it and it did not shift good at all when cold, I got to so mad in city traffic one day I got 5w30 just to try n see if it would help as I was unsure what was in it at the time. When I changed it to a thinner oil it made a world of difference then the bearing between the input n output blew about 3 months later, what a job that was, including buying a new input shaft since the old one kinda broke some teeth off it was about 500 out the door and I did all my own work.

Anybody pull alot with there trucks? I pull a big camper and cant keep bearings in the tranny? Thanks

When You change them, do You set the pre-load for this new bearings?

Yes I do. It is the front counter shaft bearing that I am having problems with. I have replaced it twice in 50,000 miles.

Well it looks like I will be doing a tranny swap in the very near furture. This is the second time I have replaced the countershaft bearings and I dont want to do it again.
