Yea man I'll take as much info u can throw at me. I have a couple friends that have mills and lathes I can have anything fabricated I need. If you can put some pics up or some measurements i'll see if I can't get this thing to work. I've got a 4500 setting in the barn that needs to be rebuilt and when I get it finished I'll pull my trans and check the bell houseing against the 4500. But yours just has a 1/2 inch spacer between the bell and the trans case right ?

I'd think it would be more than just a spacer... The NV4500 has wider ears than the Getrag all together...

1stgen545 showed me this trick years ago.......

Youll need to machine the getrag bellhousing to fit over the retainer. Once thats done just tap into the NV case using the getrag bellhousing as a template. 3/4-10 will just barely chase the outside of the NV case. A spacer of no less than .1875 will be needed to adjust for the input length. Shave about an inch off the the retainer and WHAMMO your in bidness........

The only snag of course is having to mount the tranny with the BH bolted to it but hey its FREE!!

Hey guys thanks for all the info. The only thing that scares me is that the holes u have to drill in the 4500 case being so close to the edge of the case. I might just go ahead and buy the bell housing and do it the right way. But before I decide though I'm going to see how much I'm going to have in rebuilding the 4500

Sorry I miss understood, the new bolt holes will go through the ears on the 4500 and just miss the outside of the case. I thought u meant that the new holes would go into the case itself. Well now that I know what's going on that don't sound too bad.

If I had the factory 4500 bell housing I would probably would do that but the trans I bought was a take out from a local mechanic and he used the bell when he put that guys new trans in plus where I live it's hard to find a parts truck and if u do you would think it was made of gold cause of the price. So since I don't have the bh I either have to buy a conversion one or find a way to make my getrag houseing work.
Thank you guys for all the info this forum is great..... Derrick

as mentioned by DennyT, there is a member 1stgen545, who has done a bunch of conversions. I haven't seen many posts of his lately, but you could try and PM him. I did when I started to gather info for converting my truck, and he was quite helpful.

10 years ago, when NV-4500 bell housings where very hard to come by this may have been necessary.
Now that NV-4500 bell housings are re-issued for $300 or so, I don't see the draw to trying to rig up a Getrag bell on a NV-4500.
