Gear Vendors speedo and fuel tank

Hello everyone:

A buddy and I installed the NV45 then the NP205 and upon bolting the GV under/overdrive, there is not enough room for the GV speedometer signal generator to fit. The fuel tank is in the way. My truck is a 92, so unless mistaken I have a mechanically driven, electric speedometer which requires that signal generator.

My question to folks who have installed their GV: did you install the "straight-out" signal generator or the one at a 90 degree angle? Did you run into any clearance issues with the fuel tank?

Thanks to all

Hey Billut I have a 92 but it's an auto 518. I'll look on it and see what's up on it and let you know later this afternoon. It might give you some idea of what goes where.

I just got done doing this install, and if it is a single cab you will need the 90* angled adapter. There isn't much room in there but it does fit. I think the ext. cabs didn't need the angled adapter. Oh make sure you have correct speedo gear or your miles will not be accurate. Good luck

Waldo: that answers my question, the 90* adapter and cable to the signal sender is the only way to go on a reg. cab because of the way the tank bulges out. As far as the speedo gear goes, I have 4:10 and 235/85/16 which will require a 41 tooth gear. Thanks, man!
RollinCoal: I assume that with an ext.cab and the A518 (substantially longer than the NV45) you might not have a clearance issue with the tank. Still, just curious to see if you have the angled or the straight out.

Billut on my ex-cab there is plenty of room. But to answer your question mine comes out of the GV with a 90* then goes forward with a cable about 18'' then has the signal generator "or I think that's what it is either 2 or 3 wires going into it" then that goes to a small gear ratio adaptor "or I think that's what it's called".
Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. We finally got RAIN and my shop is full so rather than wallow in the dirt n mud I waited till now so I could kinda crawl under and see for sure how it was hooked up. Hope this gives ya an idea what your looking for. How do you like split shifting the NV4500 and the GV? Good luck.

RollinCoal: that confirms that the angled "plug" works w/ a 92 (for some reason, I thought that the angled plug was for some magnetic device...). Thanks for checking it out for me, and there was no rush, no need to get muddy We've had rain every single day for the past 10 days, nothing dries and mosquitoes are meaner than snakes.
Haven't driven the truck yet, still missing the driveshafts (rear and front), can't wait though...
Thanks again, man!

whereswaldo250 what kind of fuel mileage are you getting with the 5sp 4:10s and the GV? How much in speed did you gain or how many RPMs did you lose by adding the GV? These reason I ask is my 92 is an auto and i'm have a NV4500 5sp for it. Just thinking out loud here.

RollinCoalSmoke,

Well actually I haven't even filled up yet, but I can tell you its better then what I was getting with just the getrag. I drive about 35+ miles a day during the week and I have not even put it through its first tank. Before when I was driving my truck, 65 was about all I was willing to go due to rpm's, about 2250. Now I can drive comfortably at 75 (interstate speeds) with less rpm's when I was doing 65, about 1800. I do know the gear ratios on the NV are different then the getrag. Something to think about, and I will let you know when I fill up.
