Most people just shave down the washer depending on where the pin rides. I ground mine and shaved the washer. A little more smoke and better acceleration. also gained about 2lbs of boost.

Look at the witness marks on the cone where the pin rides. The distance between where the mark stops and where the profile of the pin stops is how much you want to shave from the washer. It's generally less than 1/32'', though all pumps are different.
lowwag64, the AFC spring will push the cone back up once boost is removed--it's pretty robust compared to the other forces involved. Regardless of what goes on in the AFC housing, the truck will return to idle, if that's what you ment.

Just shave the washer down about 1/2. If you remove it you risk bending the pin that rides on it. The fuel will not come on quicker, just a little more fuel.

I have had my washer out for 2 years and no prob the pin could go a little farther but Now I have the DennyT(TTR member) power pin ( doing some D&D ) and it is cut much deeper than the bully dog and has a better profile. Just do like G1625S said and look at the mark and see how far it is from the top of the profile. You wont bend the pin that rides on it its real large for the job it dose ( its a lot bigger than the marks make you think I had my pump apart) worst that it could do is stick down if you got it in a bad jam. turning the star wheel down (clock wise) will alow more fuel befor boost comes up and can be rased (CCW) to delay the fuel till boost comes up to clear up bottom end smoke.
