i have a 92 dodge 4x4 std cab long bed 3.55 gears auto with o.d 33=12.50-16.5 tires 4in bullydog exhaust smoke screw 1.5 turns diaphram 90 and full power screw 3/4 turn k/n air filter and i can only get 14.2 miles per gallon around town and including a 40 mile drive to school twice a week it gets the same milage as before i turned up the pump and it dose not smoke but only when i first get on it. dose this sound right or is something wrongplease help thanks

Tahts right. The air coming into the engine i.e. the turbo getting spooled cleans the smoke up...that is totally normal and correct.

you've got to remember the bigger tires through your speed off and therefor make your mileage look worse unless you recalibrated your speedometer. Probably isn't a big dif but it might be 1 or 2 MPG's I've been getting about 20 on the highway in this weather running right around 70mph in a 2wd.

I get around 22 highway and 18-19 around town with the stuff in my sig, not bad for a truck of this age and millage

Agreeing with "user name", if the speedo gear is for a, say, 30 in. tall tire, and you are running 33 inches of tire you increased the diameter by 10% which also increases the circumference by 10%. Since the circumference is the actual distance you travel down the road every time the wheel turns one time, this will have a 10% perceived difference in mileage. In plain language, if the odometer is used to calculate mileage, and that calculation comes out to 15 mpg, you are actually gettting 15 + 1.5 = 16.5 mpg. That might not be as great as you want, but its pretty darn good for a 7000 lb. full-sized rig. Heck, I don't think my wife's minivan gets that in town.

I just got my 92 D250 two days ago. I really don't know much about these beasts but I'm not that impressed with the miliage I'm getting so far. Some of the guys I work with were telling me that I have to get that stock intake and turbo and exhaust out of there if I wanted to see the miliage these are famous for. They talked about a cold air intake, a 50mm turbo, and a 4 or 5 inch turbo back ehaust. What do yall think. I'm hoping to make as close to 20 mpg as I can. It's a 92 D250 4x4 LWB. minus a few gauges it's bone stock.

You want a 60mm upgrade 50mm would be a down grade. The intake and exhaust are the two things that helped mine a lot with milage. Is yours stick or auto?

I've got the 5 speed. 60mm huh? I think it has the HX35 on there. I honestly don't know if that's good or not. I think it's stock. Cute little thing. My buddy know's a bit about the Cummins. He's got a 98.5 that he's built a decent truck out of. I know I was stuck in 3' deep mud hole in my 79 chevy and he pulled me out like i was on hard ball. I really wanna use this truck as a everyday driver. I've already got a play toy.

If it is the stock turbo it is a holset H1C

It very well maybe. I know it says Holset on the compressor side. so that should help a bit huh? 60mm turbo, 5in exhaust, cold air intake, and a few turns of a couple screws on the injection pump?
