Or a really wide screwdriver, or a stiff putty knife, or a cold chisel you don't care about grinding on...

I believe that Bearkiller found that a spade type drill bit worked well. You can also get a wrench on the shank for a bit of leverage.

Another trick to try before buggering it up to badly is getting two nuts that will thread onto it.. use one as a lock nut against the other and turn it using the second one.. I did this a long long time ago on my first 91 to tighten the stud, mine kept spinning off with the filter!, but I dont recall at all what the size/pitch were...

knowing cummins its metric but it is filter side i took mine off with a set of needle nose vice grips there the stud goes into the housing while i was trying to spin the housing

Thread Size: 1-16 ~ thats what the filter that threads on there is, so that must be what the nut size was too!

I do recall I got the nuts through Fastenall..

i tried getting my seal from the dodge dealer before i took my fuel heater off and turns out they gave me some random other seal which there was no way it was gonna work so i just took the fuel heater off and took the old seal and put oil on it and put it all back together and it stopped my leak

I got mine at the local Dodge dealer parts department. $2.50 out the door.

I used a 3" long piece of 1" flat steel, ground the end down like a screwdriver and bent it about 9" from the other end as a handle to get the bung loose. Worked like a champ on a 4x4, not sure on a 2wd, though.
