Frt hub rattles when un-locked???
The left front hub rattles (weird vibration rattle?) when going like 25 mph. I though, hmm, maybe the hubs locked. It wasn't so I decided to lock it. That made the sound go away. WHATS THE DEAL.
Note that I am not running a front drive shaft (STILL).
Any ideas

Are you certain the noise is the hub? If your hub seems to be intact, your inner spindle bearing my be worn. The spindle would be getting support after you engage the hub. Engageing the hub might quiet a bad u-joint a bit too.

Grease it up really well. With no front driveshaft to hold the ft gears still, it is possible that even an unlocked hub will still spin the axle from time to time. The noise may be coming from it taking up the slack in the front axle.

Haven't had a chance to dig into there yet and see whats going on.
Who ever gets there first let the other know what he's up against...

Opened up the hub. It was dry and full of rust. Cleaned everything with a wire brush, and regreased. Bingo, no more vibs.
Guess the hub wasn't locking/unlocking fully.
Other side is fine
Check yours out, it may be full of crud?

A few allen head screws and a couple of snap rings. Make sure your oring seal at the cap is good, and I would suggest using marine grease inside. I started using the marine grease about a year ago, and now I only tear into the hubs about every fifth time I go wheeling. It used to be everytime, and man that gets old.
But mabey you don't put your truck through this

leper, I'd say your hubs are least of your worries after some of those trips!
Here's some good pictures of the hub:
