I keep on breaking the straps off the front driveshaft because of the angle of the driveshaft from the 6in lift. I was wondring what others have done to cope with this. Can you get a CV joint for the front to match the yoke on the front differential?

 

Your lift kit should have come with a bracket to tilt the axle thereby reducing the angle.

 

Wait, that was independent front suspension.

 

With a solid axle, you will have to drop the transmission housing to reduce angles.

 

Well, when I had 6" springs on the front of mine. the C/V actually bound up.. So I went in there and gave it more clearance, made it into a high angle one.. Sounds like this could be happening to you.. Maybe put your t case in neutral and unlock the hubs and rotate the shaft and see if it is binding in any way..

 

I had a 98 with a 6 inch skyjacker lift. They supplied the lowering bracket with the kit.

 

Dude, I don't mean to bust your edit or anything.. But are you married to this thread or something..If you noticed he is working with a first gen...Totally different from your 98 and 05.. So....sometimes you have to sit back and listen to others comments and you might learn something new.. the older lift kits don't come with all the bells and wisles like the newer lift kits.. The springs should have come with a 4 or 5 degree shim to rotate the pinion up a little. But as far as coming with lowering brackets.. No kit that I know of comes with any lowering brackets for the first gen, not saying that you can't make some. But, let some other peole chime in and see what they have done..

 

I got the truck used last year it already had a lift on it. I am guessing it is a
a 6in skyjacker lift. The angle is so great that the straps are hitting on the yoke if you hit a small bump in 4x4. It does have wedge shims already on it but I don't guess it was enough to compensate for the angle. This truck is a a street puller and pulls about 4 times a month. I need something that will be reliable.

my truck did the same thing when i lifted it i just ground down the stops in the u joint so it wouldnt hit any more and that worked out good for me and its easy

 

Get some stock front leafs and build yourself some stops for pulling. Lifted trucks don't do too well pulling.

 

Yeah i know they don't do too well but I think I can make it work for now. I love the way it looks with the lift and I have the perfect tires for pulling half worn out 35in BFG MTs. I don't think they will fit at stock height. Stops for front and rear are next on my project after the u-joint problem is fixed.. I may try grinding the stop on the u joint.

just a thought..But if you don't already have the 1410 style yoke and u-joint, that might help. I know my 92 has a real small yoke and u-joint, so chances are that yours is the same.. that might give u the extra room your looking 4 and add a little extra strengh. I have them on my older wheelin truck and never had a problem.

 

I have a custom 1350 cv and front 1410 yoke for mine. The problem with shims is that the castor goes way positive which causes the truck to drive...............unsafe.
The proper way to do it would be to cut and rotate the knuckles.
This is technical and expensive.
If truck is only used for pulling, then I would say grind the yokes for clearance and shim away!

 

Diddo on the castor issue. It will not handle at all. It will not want to go straight when you let go of the wheel. I broke the pinion yoke on my 89 plowing snow once. I replaced it but had to get a special joint as the yoke was wider than the old one but stil had to match the driveshaft. If I remember it was a pricy joint.

 

89-92 have the same small joint and yoke.........93s are larger. My 1410 series is about 3-4 sizes bigger than stock 92s.
