Front Drive Shaft.

So I'm in the middle of rebuilding a buddies front driveshaft. After looking it over there is a minor crack on the middle center yoke. Should I weld this or just get it replaced? It's right where the universal cup seats into it. I ordered a bunch of stuff from Quad4x4, I see they have it for $49 maybe I'll snag that.

QU40760CV Center Yoke

The cup sits in there loose, I could clamp it closed and weld it tight.

This piece looks pretty banged up, what happen was the spacers that sit on the ball busted all to hell. All the universals are gone and the grease nipples are destroyed.

Also anyone know the part# for the universals?

Is it cracked all the way through? If not, I say weld it. If it is cracked all the way through, replace it. It really boils down to how much money you want to spend, but for 49 dollars, thats a pretty good deal. I'd probably replace it.

Quad isn't really clear, but Spicer lists 5-811X as the good one for the front driveshaft. Check it for 1-1/8" diameter cups and 2-5/8" snap ring outside to outside.

It is also the front joint for our second gens.

I just ordered mine from Ebay, was as good a price as any.
On edit, 5-811X is the solid lifetime greased, check at dana website to get the same with zerks.

This is a 91, can you explain the 3r? I measured from cap to cap and I'm coming up with 2-1/8" That doesn't seem right, would I need to measure from the outer cap to cap?

So I'm having a hard time finding these universal joints from "spicer" Napa has them but they're made in china and I don't want that.

Here is the measurements.;

Looks like 3 and 9/16?

The cap is 1 and 1/16" across it.

Squeeze it in a vise, probably 3 5/8"

Measure it from snap ring groove to snap ring groove, like this:

http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p134...sal_joint.html

then check them on the site above.

Anyone have a link to the manual that rebuild the cardone drive shafts? There is a washer, seal, spacers and spring as that needs to be in a certain order from the Liner.
