The tool (4wd spindle nut socket) you need is for the 4500# dana 60 front axle, chevrolet/gmc dana 60 uses the same tool from the early 80's on up. IT IS NOT THE SAME TOOL AS THE REAR AXLE NUT SOCKET AND DON'T USE AS HAMMER AND PUNCH . For reference the 3500# front axle is the dana 44. ALL cummins and w350 gas trucks have the 60 front which is evidenced by manual locking hubs, the trucks with 44 fronts (gassers) have a vacuum central axle locking mechanism.

Any questions?

Correct on the Dana 60 front, the rear should be a Dana 70 (at least on the 92 and 93 I have).

I have not found a spindle socket in my area. I can't remember if the nut has two or four slots, but the ones I have ordered have never fit. They come with 4 or 6 points sticking out to lock into the nut.

I am pretty sure the dodge is a 4 point socket and the GM is 6 point.

If someone could list a web resource that sells these sockets I would be greatful. My neighbor might be greatful too, since I always borrow his when I need it.

the internal hub axles take a different socket than the older external hub ones (88-90?) if I recall correctly. Your 93 has the internal hubs and takes the special socket. I was able to get one at my local CarQuest overnight. I think it was around $25 and was a Protools brand or something like that.

Most stores cary the smaller one for the D44 axles on the shelf since they are more common, but if they look they can get the D60 one.

Was it a 4 point or 6 point socket?

Andyr354,
My hubs appear to be the same hub that I have seen on trucks for years on all trucks up until the 90's.

The hubs with the ring of 5/16 (I think that is the size) bolts around the outside are the old external style lockouts that dodge kept using after everyone else had quit using them in the 70s. Most say Selectro on the large ****.

In 91 they finally went to the modern internal lockout style that just has the cap held on by some allen screws. the actual engagement is by splines inside the hub instead of relying on the bolts to hold the way the old style did.

Ok, then I have the newer style with allen bolts and the splines engage the hub. I have never seen the old style.
