Flexplate questions
Howdy everyone. I'm going to be jerking the transmission to replace the rear main sometime in the near future, as some of my earlier threads indicated. Since I am going to get an upgraded torque converter and the 1st gen flexplate is weak anyway, I am going to upgrade. First, I found a flexplate from a 99 my Dodge with the 24 valve. Will this work? Also, what are the torque specs on the flexplate bolts, and what kind of locktite should I use? I will appreciate any advise. Thanks!

What is the part number for the Cummins flexplate? And, again, will a 99 model 24 valve flexplate work? Also, what are the torque specs for the bolts?

from the FAQ section:
I just orded that flex plate from Cummins myself, by the time I paid taxes and shipping it was just under $130 to my door.
I'm not sure on the torque specs... actually, i'd like to know those myself...
Updated Flex Plate
This is the part number for a 95 model. This is a direct bolt on for the 1st gens and should be used in place of the old part number for added durability especially on modified trucks.
Chrysler Part # 5015709 Price $295.00
Cummins Part #3946161 Price $ 94.22

Just curious here, whats so bad about a used one? Is there a chance that it is out of balance, or cracked, or something like that?
BTW, thanks for the replys. I am going to check out a new flexplate as soon as I get to a Cummins dealership.

Just get the one through Cummins.
A used one for a new truck could spell bad news there could be stress fractures in it that you can't see. The lock up converters put alot more stress on the flex plate.
