flex plate not so flexable
so 6 months ago i herd a sharp snap fallowed by a slite tin sounding ping ... re search lead me to believe it was the flex plate. nothing major happened oh well drive as is. a week ago the sound got worse, today sounded like it was going to grenade ... parked... so i read this and that, rebuild a 46rh, swap a 47 rh, go with the nv4500 swap ... truth be told if i could find a 94-95 truck parting out i would swap but looks like i will just do the flex plate like bc's write up. i want a decent tq converter while it is out and a valve body. called Hughes they say ship it. i say i lose 800/ day i am down, they say yeah that sucks do i want to ship mine? i say hmm have to think on that.... i read bd, suncoast dtt gorend ats all make a no lockup tq for our trucks any one have any experiences good but mostly i want the bad

Seems to me that when my second flex-plate broke on my 93 I went with one for a 94 model. I can't recommend anything on the converter other than do it right and do it once. Losing eight bills a day will start getting painful quick.

Once you start turning up these trucks they make more power than the STOCK flexplate and trans can handle - without $$$ mods.
Get a '94 - '96 47RH and the other parts to put it your truck. Heavier duty to start with - nearly twice the towing capacity - probably can handle nearly twice the power also...
Build it the way - $$$ - you want.
IF you've got all the parts together - swap shouldn't take a weekend....
OH - you can't get a lock up for our trans - they don't come the provisions...

I dunno about that as my fully STOCK truck tore out the STOCK flexplate in less than 50,000 miles. Dodge knew about it thus the thicker plate in the second gens.

I would go with a GB torque converter and have him set you up a valve body. As long as your clutches are in decent shape you'll have a nice tranny. If I had a auto thats what I would do.

Dang !
Wish I had choices like that....
Let's see :
1: fix my old 1st gen for about $5000 so can drive it reliably;
2: buy a new 08 sxt...
Choices. Choices. Choices
