Finnaly started up after over 9 months! Now to get back to work........
Well since I bought the 05' Dmax I parked the old Dodge beside the garage where its sat since last May. I just decided today to pull it out and do something with it. Like most other guys on here I've had sooooo many projects going that none of them were getting finnished. I've started cleaning out my garage and yard and sticking to just one project at a time. For now I'm just going to focus on the old ugly Dodge and get it complete.
Now I just have to figure out what complete is.
I have 2 options I'm looking at right now. Help me decide or try to convince me of one direction to take with the project.
Option 1. Gut the interior, rip off all extra weight and anything not needed, install my SB DD clutch thats been sitting in my garage 1.5 years. LOL Then get the VE pump rebuilt. (leaks), install the electric lift pump and large remote filter, and turn the truck into just a 1/4 mile toy. Just a bare metal interior with 2 racing seats. Then over time look for a donor truck like an old short bed chevy or half ton short bed dodge to drop this driveline in.
Option 2. Keep this truck, slowly restore it to a like new condition, cut the frame to make it a short bed(I like the looks better), install a D80 with 3.31's or find a D70 with 3.07's for highway, just try over time to replace all the crappy wiring and broken interior pieces. Thats going to be the hardest part, finding replacement interior parts and some other small parts. Thats why I'm thinking about dropping the cummins in an old chevy, where I can get any replacement part and have a brand new truck in the end.
And just want to say I'm glad to be back on here with all the first gen guys! A different breed of people here......

I say do the short wheelbase install. If it currently doesnt fit your taste make it. I am one of those guys that say keep makes apart. Chevy only, ford only, Dodge only. Yeah you could take the easier way and put it into a book shelf chevy but thats what seperates the men from the boys. Short wheelbase 1991-93 trucks are cool. Heck what about a club cab short wheelbase. Eitherway, Im glad you decided to give it a second chance. Good luck anyway you do decide. RAM

My truck is a club cab, so it would make an even more unique truck to make a club cab short bed. I saw a white one at Texas Diesel Nationals in the burnout contest and it looked pretty sweet!

I'd vote for a mid 70's Chevy, short bed step side!
This will be my next project.
But a extra cab short bed would be differant.
Oh and I can give that clutch a good home since you aren't using it!

I just bought the clutch to hold the power and live up to track abuse. I'd much rather build a GM 4L80E to put behind it to race than the 5 speed.
