Finally ran the Dyno, not very impressed...

Well we had a dyno run here in AZ and I finally got to run the ol' gal. I am a little bummed because I really expected to see close to 300. I put down a peak HP of 276, and a peak of 687 torque. Other members with my setup or lesser hit the magic 300 so.... Do the numbers sound right for the stuff in my sig? The pump is maxed out so im stumped. It was on a dyno jet by the way.

PS. Does anyone have the dyno jet reader program for my files? Its proprietary so its not available for my Macs. If so, can I send them to someone who can maybe save them as jpegs?

Mike, I think those are good numbers. I no expert by a long shot, but a lot of guys run max timing and I think that raises the hp numbers and lowers the TQ a little.

Do you have a slush box? If so get a newer tighter torque converter to help put the power to the ground. Also maybe a shift kit.

Good hp/tq ratio. I love the 1st gens advance timing

1/8" bump isn't much for a timing increase, on my old '92 I pushed the pump untill in contacted the intake and then brought it back about 1/4". This definatly gave a boost in performance but unfortunatly at the cost of engine temps. I couldn't tow with it like that as with just my 1800# slide in camper on the truck and ANY kind of incline the coolant temps started to climb FAST. Had to pull it back to 1/8th to be able to safely tow.

Next time you dyno push the timing up more just for the run and see what it does. If you don't tow you could leave it like that.

Well, I have a 5spd. I have the timing pushed more like 3/16 - 1/4, and I dont think the waste gate is opening yet.

What was your peak boost while on the dyno?

What kind of boost does it make on the road? Which gear did you run in?

I installed an adjustable boost elbow which in its present setting completely blocks all boost from actuating the wg. I no longer have any boost flutter and the truck developes more power at higher boost. Boost on the dyno does not exceed 38psi with momentary temp to about 1200 or slightly higher.

With my Stage III Snow W/M controler I can't get egts to trigger W/M onset going up Caggage Hill outside of Pendelton OR at a steady 70mph with egts below 1000 usually around 950. Adjustable boost elbows are under $25. You can leave it closed when on a dyno and open it up in increments to see what effect it has on your performance - just a thought.

Also with a manual tranny you can't build any boost until you put the pedal to the metal. This will keep your HP numbers slightly lower. If the dyno operator will let you ride your brakes slightly - just until you see 2 to 5 psi of boost you will pick up 15 to 20 RWHP. To me this is more real world because on the road you can easily build 5 psi of boost and your RWHP will probably be at least 300 if you hammer it.

Sorry about the long post.

At 41psi sounds like it had no problem spooling on the dyno. With the mods listed in your sig, the HP sounds normal to me for the low hp producing 370's in a 1st gen. With POD's I bet you'd be 300-325hp. I know Tim Worline was pretty unsatisfied with his New Era 370's at Scheid last year. He had almost the same setup as you and was in the same hp range <300hp.

Then again with 41psi that's alot of fuel. Might be time for AIR.

with a set of pods you will be around 325 even with a stock turbo, witch yours isnt, you 370s are your problem

boost = torque
fuel = hp

I make about the same boost on the road and I did a couple runs in 4th and 5th. The hp was within 2% each run, torque spiked the most in 5th. I have a boost elbow, but until I drill my divider I figure the wg is not too useful? Im not going to diss on the ne370's but I expected more. And more air? Look at Wanna's numbers with a stage 4! He needs air!

Oh, does anyone have the ability to read my dynojet files so I can post them on here for interpretation?
