finally done with my nv4500 conversion!
Well after putting it off for awhile now I am finally 97% done. All I have left to do is get the new wire pigtail for my reverse switch. I actually thought about taking diamond plate aluminum and covering the entire center hump. But I decided not to, didnt want to look to gaudy! Well what do you think guys. New (not used or rebuilt) deal of the year! NV4500= $1800, AA adapter kit=$290, Machine shop= $10, New shifter, handle, 5 qts of Mopar oil, and 5spd insert $130. After putting in and only driving it for about 10 miles. Priceless!!!!!!! Definitly would recommend to anyone. I ran that Getrag until it no longer would go into any gear easily. Well guys what do you think?

Yep, Looks very familiar
Is that a cast iron t-case adapter?
One suggestion ditch the weak 10ga 4" box for your mount and build one out of some 1/4 " stuff, the 10ga box will crack and fall apart, don't ask how I know

Honestly, there isnt any hard obsticles. To do this swap you have to remove the bearing retainer and cut about .400" off of it. The instructions say you can use a hack saw but I took it to a machine shop and had them put it on a lathe. That way I now its true. Cutting the floorboard was tough for me. I love this truck. I ended up cutting it about as perfect as I think I could have. I went back 5.5". I then cut a 6"x6" piece out of an old fender and screwed it over the old hole for strength and support. Then painted it up. I had to lightly grind away some of the transmission bracket. It was rubbing up against the tranny. Other than that it was pretty straight forward.
The seats are factory, just nice covers.
pulltilbroke: It does have a cast iron adaptor. I was told they were better than aluminum. Or maybe thats just to get me to buy it! Eitherway I got it at a great price being it was a brand new tranny. It was ordered some time ago and the customer backed out. I didnt take the top off but looking down threw the top it looked new (I hope it is!). I will take your advice on the square tubing! I want it to be as good as I can make it! What size tubing did you end up using? It looks like 4" or so. At this point I would recommend this upgrade to anyone tired of dealing with a Getrag with issues. Mine has had issues since the day I bought it. First it started poping out of 2nd, then driving threw mountains the tranny would pop out of 5th but the shifter would be stuck in 5th. I would have to pull over and force it out of 5th. Then it would not go into 4th at all. Guys I was so sick off the Getrag. I am going to baby this tranny atleast for a 1k miles or so to break it in. Thanks, Robert

That sounds about right. I just wanted to double check. I took the truck on the highway today, I got it up to 70mph and noticed right away that I was running at a lower RPM. At 70mph I was running 1900rpms. At todays temp I know before to run 70mph I would run 2000rpms. Is 5th gear higher in a nv4500 than the getrag? Also, I posted in a seperate link but does anyone know who has the red poly bushings that mount to the crossmember? I saw them on a members pic awhile back and now I cant find it! I want to update from the rubber doughnuts. Years of service have taken there toll on them. Thanks, Robert
oilcan64:
The triple dash guage pod was in the truck when I bought it. I dont know who made it, but its got isspro guages in it (tach, egt, boost).

That 3 gauge pod was also available in a 2 and 4 gauge pod. The bottom half mount that fits to the first Gen Dash is the hard thing to find. I bought mine years ago at US GEAR, just called them up and had them ship me one. (yes same USGEAR that does the over/under units.)
The single tube is cool but I routed the harness through an existing hole from the PO in the dash on my 1993 and it looks clean.
Nice conversion there, Freight Train.
You can get the trans mounts from quad 4x4. They're OEM rubber style but I guess Poly is OK too.. The ones from quad are high quality and aren't cheap though...
