A few more dyno questions for a stock auto? what gear and more?

Well i got my trans all fixed up and I think I will dyno this saturday and hope it holds. It will be a portable Dyno set up in a parkin lot. This will be my first time and I'm not sure exactly what to do. Don't ya just get the truck up to about 55 or 60 mph and then stomp on it? What gear should i run it in? 3rd or OD? Is 3rd 1:1 or what gear is? What fuel should i run? and what about tire pressure? I think i get 3 runs so i may do it different every time. I've heard NOT to hit the brakes no matter what. I've got my wastegate turnbuckled shut and I'll probably turn my KSB on at leat 2 out of the 3 runs to see what difference it makes. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

OD will give you more load, but really, it shouldn't matter.

Do it in OD and make sure you are going fast enough that it doesnt kick down. The dyno operator will tell you when to hit it. Looks like you have a good spooling turbo so the brake thing is not needed for you. With my 05 I have to use the brake to spool the turbo up enough that I have good boost when I hit it. Good luck and have fun.. BTW are you sure they are gonna let you drive?? Some operators wont let u drive and it sucks cuz they dont know the truck..

With my POT controller instead of TPS, it shouldn't shift down. Like when i go to pass people on the highway or somethin, I just punch it and it stays in OD and doesn't shift down into 3rd and then back up so it shouldn't shift down. It will shift down going really slow through town or something though.

I'm pretty sure they will let me drive/operate my truck. I went to the same event last year and watched and didn't dyno and I'm pretty sure most of the guys drove their own.

alright thanks Terry, So you were on Custom Auto's portable dyno when you dynoed down in provo? And Will you be comin up to this one??? So they will let me run in OD but do i want to? or should i try both? i think i get 3 runs so I'll probably try it in OD and in 3rd.

What gear is 1:1???

I'm pretty curious how much this stock trans will set me back hp wise.

OD off should run you in direct (1:1). i'm guessing the 518s are a 4-speed w/ 4th being OD, so that would make 3rd direct or 1:1?

Yes sir, you are correct. 4th is OD, 3rd is direct.

I wouldn't be suprised if you made MORE horsepower if you let your wastegate open....

I'm not so sure about that. I'm hittin about 37 to 38 lbs of boost with it shut and it cools much much better with it shut then when i had it opening around 33 lbs. It runs cooler and i think it runs better so i'm gonna leave it.
