fan clutch engages early
Seems like when my temp guage shows about 1/4 on a 95 degree day with the ac on the fan clutch engages. It really pulls some power and takes close to 2mpg off my mileage. At what temp (by your guage) does your fan clutch start comming on. Also when pulling a long grade like Donner summit on hwy 80 in 4th pedal almost to the floor running 900 degrees on the pyro (post turbo) my temp guage will only go to 1/2. Is that normal or should the guage be reading higher. What does yours show on a long hard pull.
Thanks
Dave

I put a new one on mine ,but it engages any time it wants ,even on a 45 degree day before it warms up,,piece of advice spend the extra few bucks and make sure it says hayden on it,mines had no problems since.

I think your gauge should be checked. I bet your gauge is reading low, I can get mine to the hot line but my fan comes on about on the 3rd line over.
My other 92 gauge reads low, the fan comes on about half way across the scale. I just put a thermostat it that one.

I currently have a 93 250. It runs at just under the 1/4 mark. pulling a grade or in hot weather the hottest it has gotten is around 5/8s. The fan will kick in at the 1/4 mark. It dosent take a big heat increase to set it off. personally after smoking my 93 350 Id rather it come on early and keep i it cool than burn it up.. just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the info. Apache, yours sounds exactly like mine so maybe its normal. I should have paid more attention in the last couple years so I could remember if its different or not. Just seems like I remember it comming on strong then turning off after it cools some then back on etc. Now it just seems to stay on once it gets hot. Taking another trip next week, I'll try turning the ac off for awhile and see if the fan will go off.

Definatly adds to it comming on with the ac, my trip home has a 7% grade for 3 miles or so, it will kick in 1/2 way up then off then on. I had put a hayden on my 350 and never heard it come on even when it ran 3/4 of the way up. I really question the accuracy of the stock guages. Have a good trip!!!!!
