I've just spent a couple hours looking for this thread. I might need this information soon and knew I'd come across it at some point, in my never ending search for more info through the archives.

Any chance we can get this put into "The Sticky"???

Just a quick heads-up: This installation method can be damaging to the bearing. The clamping force from the vise is forced to go through the ***** of the bearing, and can brinell the raceways. A smaller socket should have been used so that the forces are between the shaft and the inner race only. You know you are in the clear when you can rotate the bearing freely while pressing it on.

The number posted above is correct, as per the NTN corp.

DFO766LLUACS32 / L283

Local bearing distributor has it for $75 and it's the exact same NTN bearing that the truck came with. They sell lots of them

I am wanting to replace a bearing in one of my fan hubs, but for the life of me I can not see how to press out the old bearing and center? The outer diameter of the bolt flange is wider then the cast housing....so how do I get the old bearing out? I don't have a bearing press either...just a big Ol' bench vise like Jim L.

Maybe I just can't see the solution for some reason, but I have been looking at it, and thinking about it for days now.

TC, I had to take my housing into a local auto shop to have the bearing pressed out, and he pressed in the new bearing using the old one. Cost me $50, but I was worried if I tried using hammers and such(as I, too, do not own a press, just a vice) I may have made a deadly move and cracked the housing, which I've learned is hard to find new(and cheap).

Has anyone done this job recently? Where you bought the bearing and how you took off the old and put on the new one.

I used a bearing splitter and a pres to get the center out and a piece of tubing and a Cummins ntc wrist pin on the press to get it out of the casting.

I did end up replacing the bearing a couple years ago now. I thought and thought about how to get things apart with just basic tools, no press, and eventually figured out how to do it.

I pulled the center support first before removing the bearing from the housing.

Removing the bearing from the housing is simple enough with a couple big sockets and a large vice, but the center fan support was a tougher to figure out. Eventually I came up with the idea of using long bolts through the fan support and have those push down against the bearing and thus pushing it up and out.

I had to buy 6 new bolts....2" long I think....then once threaded in I put small pieces of flat bar, or was it washers?, under each bolt for them to push against. Then just went around and around slowly tightening the bolts.....took about 5 min or so and it just popped out.

Re-assembly took only minutes with the new bearing.

I will see if I can find a couple pics of what I did on the old hard drive and post them up.
